Are you on a journey to develop your own artistic style, or do you prefer a particular glaze on your ceramic work, but would like some inspiration that will evolve your artistic expression? You may be interested in further exploring surface decorating and finishing techniques in this ceramics class to achieve a more cohesive look to your work.
In this members-only advanced class, the focus will be on finding and developing your 'voice' in clay through the finishing and decorating phase of the potting process. You are encouraged to bring in-progress pieces to class to experiment with decorating techniques that will enhance ideas and expression you are already working on. The focus will not be on throwing or hand-building techniques, although overall design will be discussed.
Possible techniques we will explore are image transfers, sgraffito, stamping, wax resists, slips and engobes, terra sigillata, and working with stains, coloured clays and metal salts. You are welcome to suggest specific techniques you are particularly interested in learning about.
You will receive one bag of studio clay to use for works you make during your free studio time, in preparation for class. All other materials and glazes are included.
Please note that this course runs for 6 weeks on alternating Thursday evenings, beginning September 14, 2017.
