Spring Raku Workshop

Spring Raku Workshop (members only)
Saturday, May 25, 2024 (Rain date: Sunday, May 26)
9:30 AM to 4 PM
Instructors: Meagan Brooks and Sandra Mills

Description

Learn the Raku process and make unique pieces to treasure. This is a great opportunity to learn a new method of firing your pots and spend the day outdoors with friends. The workshop is open to all Guild members – General and Studio/RAM. Participants will be able to fire 2-3 pieces in this workshop.

Workshop details

Dates: May 25 (rain date: May 26)

Time: 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Where: 2 Humber Heights Trail, Palgrave, ON L0N 1P0 (Frieda’s place)

Cost: $125 + HST

Included

● 1/2 bag Raku clay

● Zoom meeting to review form and design options (April 16, 7:00 – 9:00 PM)

● Bisque firing of your pieces

● A variety of Raku glazes and naked Raku slips available in the studio for Studio and General members

● Raku firing of 2-3 pieces at the workshop location

After pieces are fired in the Raku kiln, participants are responsible for managing their pieces in a reduction chamber (e.g., lidded metal container such as a large soup pot, small garbage can, or roasting pan). Chambers with well-fitting lids that match the size of your pieces will provide the best reduction environment. Participants are welcome to bring their own reduction chambers, however, we also have a selection available.

Sawdust will be provided, but participants should also bring newsprint with them.

As we will be working around open fire, participants must abide by the following:
