Who We Are

Who We Are

Our Mission

Mississauga Potters’ Guild is a community of clay artists and enthusiasts that provide opportunities to explore, create, share and appreciate their craft.

Our Vision

Bring together people who have a common interest in pottery and ceramic art.

Provide a safe, well equipped and affordable studio with sufficient space to meet the needs of the membership.

Encourage skill development by providing various educational and development opportunities for the exchange of ideas and technical information.

Provide outlets for the exhibition and sale of ceramic wares produced by all members.

Require of our members a willingness to participate in the operation and fiscal viability of the Guild to achieve the vision.

History

The Mississauga Potters’ Guild was founded in 1978 as a non-profit community based organization run by and for its members. Our Guild has grown immensely from its humble beginnings when a few clay enthusiasts gathered together in members’ homes. The founding members’ mandate to operate as a community resource in the art and craft of pottery is still true today. Our Guild advances this mandate by welcoming all members from the community, maintains a studio with 24/7 access for members, offers classes and workshops, holds monthly meetings and provides sale and exhibition opportunities for members. Our Guild is run by a Board of elected members and abides by the Guild’s Constitution and set of Bylaws.

Activities

Our Guild offers a variety of programs and events for artists who have a common interest in pottery and ceramic art. Skill development and inspiration is offered to everyone from beginners to professionals.

Adult classes, workshops and Open Studio are offered throughout the year for individuals interested in learning about pottery or developing their craft. Youth Clay Camps are offered in the summer.  Exhibitions, mentorships, sales, and social activities occur throughout the year, helping to build our amazing community of ceramic artists.

Studio

We are a not-for-profit cooperative organization that offers a welcoming environment where members can work on their craft. Located in Mississauga, our Guild has a well-equipped studio space where Studio and Resident Artist members have 24/7 access to work independently. There are three distinct communal working areas equipped with 20 wheels, four kilns, a glaze kitchen, an extruder and a slab roller as well as dedicated work spaces for our Resident Artists. The ‘teaching side’ is a fully operational teaching studio where classes, workshops and Open Studio take place and is used by members when available. All studio members are involved in maintaining the studio assisted by our dedicated Studio Technician.

Monthly Meetings

Monthly meetings are open to all members. Members come together once a month to socialize and learn about what’s happening at the Guild. Meeting begins with our Guild business meeting. Following the meeting a guest joins us, usually a ceramic artist, for a unique presentation.

Meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month from September to June. Every year, during the December meeting, the membership votes in the Board. Monthly meetings are open to all members.
